Print shops and sign makers

Accounting software for print shops: paper stock, job costs and trade accounts

Print and sign work is quoted job by job, made from stock you keep on the shelf, and often outsourced in part. AcboBooks quotes from an estimate, costs paper, vinyl and outsourced work to the job, and handles the trade customers who buy on account.

For copy and print shops, sign and banner makers, screen printers and promotional products sellers in the US and Canada, $399.99 once.

No card, no account. Windows 10 and 11. United States and Canada.

What it means

In practice

Quote to invoice

Build the estimate from your service and product items, turn it into an invoice when the job ships, and take a deposit on large orders.

Stock on the shelf

Paper, vinyl, substrates, blank garments and ink can be inventory at average cost with reorder points, bought on purchase orders and counted at year-end.

Outsourced work on the job

When a trade printer runs part of the order, their bill carries the customer:job and can be pulled onto your invoice with a markup.

Know which jobs are worth running

Tag materials and outside work to the job, and Job Profitability shows whether that rush order of banners actually made money.

Agencies and resellers who buy on account get invoices with terms, a monthly statement and, if they are late, a finance charge.

What it does not do

· No print estimating calculator (sheet yields, ink coverage) and no production queue.

· No bill of materials: finished products are not assembled from components.

· Windows 10 and 11 for now (a Mac version is coming soon); no phone app.

· It imports your bank's statement file rather than connecting live to the bank.

Questions people ask

Before you download

Is printing taxable?

In most places printed goods are taxable as tangible products, but some states exempt certain items and resellers may give you a resale certificate. Set each line's tax to match; non-taxable lines can be marked on the invoice.

Can I give trade customers their own prices?

Yes. A price level per customer applies a percentage off (or a markup) when you pick items for them.

How do I cost a job that I partly outsource?

Enter the trade printer's bill with the customer:job attached and mark it billable. Add it to your invoice with your markup, and the job report shows both sides.

Can my sales reps see their commission?

Assign a rep to each invoice. The Sales by Rep report shows pre-tax sales and commission at each rep's rate.
