Moving from QuickBooks® Desktop

Bring the whole company file. Keep the history.

AcboBooks reads what QuickBooks Desktop exports — lists and transactions — and rebuilds your chart of accounts, names, items and open balances. You verify the totals before anything is final.

Three ways in

Pick the path that matches your setup

IIF export

Works with any QuickBooks Desktop edition, any year

In QuickBooks: File → Utilities → Export → Lists to IIF Files
Tick every list: accounts, customers, vendors, employees, items, classes, terms
Save the .iif file, then in AcboBooks: File → Import from QuickBooks → choose the file
Brings lists and opening balances; transactions arrive via the live pull or statement import

Live pull (same PC)

QuickBooks Desktop 2019 and later, Windows

Open your company file in QuickBooks and leave it open
In AcboBooks: File → Import from QuickBooks → Pull from QuickBooks
QuickBooks asks you to approve the connection once; AcboBooks reads lists and transactions through Intuit's on-device SDK
Both programs must run at the same privilege level (run AcboBooks "as administrator" if QuickBooks does)

Fresh start + bank history

When you'd rather not carry old transactions

Import lists from IIF for names, items and accounts
Enter opening balances as of your start date
Import bank statements (OFX/QFX) for history you still want searchable

What comes across

Mapped automatically, flagged when unusual

Chart of accounts

Types mapped (bank, A/R, A/P, income, COGS, expense, equity, current/long-term liabilities); account numbers kept

Customers, vendors, employees

Names, addresses, terms, balances; quoted names with commas handled

Items

Service, inventory, non-inventory, other charge; prices with thousands separators parsed correctly

Classes and jobs

Preserved as classes and customer jobs

Open invoices and bills

Recreated as opening documents so A/R and A/P age correctly

Transactions (live pull)

Invoices, bills, payments, cheques, deposits, journal entries

Re-import

Idempotent — running it again updates, never duplicates

What doesn't

· Payroll history (year-to-date wages come in as opening balances; run new payroll in AcboBooks)

· Memorised reports and custom templates

· Attachments and audit trail from QuickBooks

· Bank feed connections (reconnect in AcboBooks)

Figures from a real QuickBooks Premier 2021 company file used during development. Your numbers will differ; the checks won't.

AcboBooks takes a backup of your company file before any import and never writes to your QuickBooks file.

Verify before you commit

The checklist we run, and you should too

An owner handing a USB drive across a desk to an accountant
  1. Trial balance. Run it in both programs as of the same date. Totals must match to the cent.
  2. A/R aging and A/P aging. Compare the open-invoice and unpaid-bills totals, then spot-check three customers and three vendors.
  3. Bank balances. Each bank and credit-card account should show the same balance as of your cut-over date.
  4. Item counts. Inventory quantities on hand, if you track them.
  5. Sales tax payable. Confirm the liability balance carried across.

If any line differs, the import screen shows what it skipped and why — fix the source, re-run, and the import updates in place without duplicating anything.
