Moving from Sage 50® (Canada)

Bring your Sage 50 books across, history and all.

AcboBooks reads your company straight from Sage 50, Canadian Edition: no exporting files. Two years of invoices, payments, bills and journal entries, with the trial balance checked account by account.

At a glance

What comes across, and what doesn’t

12 kinds of data come across, 2 partly, and 4 stay in Sage. Nothing changes in your Sage company: AcboBooks only reads it.

Sage keeps the detail of this fiscal year and last; anything older is already part of your opening balances. For Sage 50 Accounting, Canadian Edition: Pro, Premium and Quantum.

Step by step

Six steps, from Sage to matching totals

1

Open your company in Sage 50

On the same computer where you will install AcboBooks, open the company in Sage 50 and leave it open. AcboBooks reads it while Sage has it open.

2

Give AcboBooks a read-only Sage user

In Sage, go to Setup → Set Up Users & Roles and click Add User. Under Rights With Third-Party Products choose Read-only access, and tick Full accounting rights. If you have never set up users, Sage first asks you to give sysadmin a password. This is the way Sage lets other programs read your data, and the user can’t change anything.

3

Install AcboBooks and open the importer

Download the free trial, create a new company, then go to Company → Import from Sage 50.

4

Connect

Type the Sage user name and password and click Connect to Sage 50. AcboBooks finds the open company by itself and shows what it found: accounts, customers, vendors, employees, items, and your fiscal year.

5

Choose how much to bring, then import

Choose Lists and open balances on a date (quickest), or Full history (every transaction Sage still has, from the start of last fiscal year). Check the preview, then click Import into AcboBooks.

6

Check the totals, then finish setting up

After a full-history import, AcboBooks compares its trial balance with Sage’s, account by account. Check your A/R and A/P aging against Sage’s, then set up payroll, add your users and reconcile your bank accounts going forward.

Free migration help

Rather not do it alone? We’ll check it with you, free.

On a free 30-minute call we set up the Sage user with you, run the import and compare the trial balance in both programs.

Email [email protected] with the subject “Migration help”. We reply within one business day.

Is my Sage company changed?

No. The Sage user you create can only read, and AcboBooks only reads. Keep Sage until you have compared the totals and are happy.

How long does it take?

Setting up the Sage user takes five minutes. Reading the company takes seconds, and a two-year full-history import a minute or two.

Do I need to export anything?

No. AcboBooks reads the company while it is open in Sage on the same computer, the way Sage allows reporting tools to.

I use Sage 50 in the US

This importer is for Sage 50 Accounting, Canadian Edition. If you use the US edition, email us and tell us your version.
