Flooring installers and stores

Accounting software for flooring contractors: material, install labour and sales tax done right

Flooring jobs mix material you sell with labour you provide, and the two are often taxed differently. AcboBooks keeps them on separate items with their own tax settings, costs the material to the job, and shows the margin on each install.

For flooring installers, flooring stores with install crews and subcontract installers in the US and Canada, $399.99 once.

What it means

In practice

Material and labour kept apart

Hardwood, LVP, tile, underlayment and transitions are items with their own taxable setting; installation, prep and haul-away are service items. One invoice handles both.

Job margin from real costs

The supplier's bill for the job's material, the installer's bill or your crew's hours, and any dumpster or delivery charge all carry the customer:job.

Showroom stock if you have it

Stocked lines are inventory at average cost with reorder points. Special orders are bought against the job with a purchase order.

Square feet in, margin out

Quote from an estimate with material and labour lines, take a deposit to order the flooring, and receive the order against the purchase order when it arrives.

Pay the sub installer by the square foot as a vendor bill on the job, and the 1099-NEC or T4A slip is ready at year-end.

Questions people ask

Before you download

Do I charge sales tax on the material or the whole job?

It depends on your state or province and on whether you sell and install or only install. Set material and labour items to match the rule that applies to you; the app then applies it on every invoice.

Can I bill by the square foot?

Yes. Make the item's rate a price per square foot and enter the square footage as the quantity.

How do I pay sub installers?

As vendors. Enter their bill against the job, pay it, and flag them for 1099-NEC (US) or a T4A slip (Canada).

Does it track stock in the showroom?

Yes, stocked items are inventory at average cost with reorder points and a Stock Status report.
