What it means

In practice

Seasonal contracts

A fixed price for the winter can be billed as a memorised monthly invoice through the season, or taken up front and recognised into income month by month.

Per-push after every storm

Batch Invoices bills the same plowing or salting lines to every customer you select, so a storm night is billed in one run.

Salt by the ton

Salt and ice melt are inventory items at average cost. Each application you bill draws the stock down, and reorder points warn you before the next storm.

A season that comes in bursts

Overnight storms mean long shifts. Hourly payroll pays the overtime, and in Canada the Record of Employment worksheet is ready when the season ends.

Many plow operators run landscaping in summer. Classes split the two, so each season's P&L stands on its own.

Questions people ask

Before you download

How should I bill seasonal contracts?

Most simply as a memorised monthly invoice from the first month of the season to the last. If the customer prepays, record the payment and recognise it into income evenly over the months it covers.

Can I bill every per-push customer after a storm at once?

Yes. In Batch Invoices, enter the push or salting lines once, tick the customers, and an invoice is created for each.

Can I run landscaping and snow removal in one file?

Yes. Use classes for each line of work and run the profit and loss by class to see them separately.

Does it help with seasonal layoffs?

Payroll keeps the year's totals for W-2s or T4s. In Canada, the Record of Employment worksheet lists insurable earnings by pay period for filing on ROE Web.
