Florists and flower shops

Accounting software for florists: perishable stock, wedding deposits and delivery fees

Flowers spoil, weddings are booked a year out, and every order seems to come with a delivery fee. AcboBooks holds wedding deposits as a liability until the day, keeps hard goods as inventory, and books fresh product the way your accountant expects.

For flower shops, event florists and studio florists in the US and Canada, $399.99 once.

No card, no account. Windows 10 and 11. United States and Canada.

What it means

In practice

Wedding deposits held until the day

The booking deposit and later payments are customer deposits, a liability. On the event date, invoice the wedding and apply them, and the income lands in the right month.

Fresh product and hard goods

Fresh stems usually turn over too fast to count, so they are expensed as cost of goods when bought. Vases, ribbon, containers and giftware can be inventory at average cost.

Delivery as its own item

Delivery and setup fees are separate items with their own tax setting, so you can follow your state's rule on whether delivery is taxable.

The counter, the cooler and the wedding calendar

Enter the day's walk-in sales as a sales receipt, invoice the hotels and offices that buy on account, and keep each wedding as a job so its flowers, rentals and labour show against its price.

At month-end the P&L shows the cost of fresh product as a share of sales, the number florists watch most.

What it does not do

· Not a florist POS or wire service: no order taking, card terminal or relay network.

· No gift card tracking.

· Windows 10 and 11 for now (a Mac version is coming soon); no phone app.

· It imports your bank's statement file rather than connecting live to the bank.

Questions people ask

Before you download

Should fresh flowers be inventory?

Most small florists expense fresh product when bought because it turns over in days, and keep hard goods as inventory. Your accountant can confirm what suits your shop.

Is delivery taxable?

It depends on the state or province, and some states have special rules for florist wire orders. Keep delivery as its own item and set its tax to match your rule.

How do I handle a wedding booked next year?

Record the deposit as a customer deposit. It stays a liability until you invoice the wedding, then it is applied to the invoice.

Can I bill hotels and restaurants monthly?

Yes. Set up a memorised invoice that repeats weekly or monthly, or invoice each delivery and send a monthly statement.
