What it means
In practice
Materials marked up
Supply-house bills marked billable to a job come up when you invoice that customer. Tick the ones to bill, enter your markup percentage, and they land on the invoice.
Projects billed in draws
From the estimate, invoice a percentage of the whole job, or an amount or quantity per line, as each stage is done. What is left to bill on each line is always shown.
Permits recovered
Permit fees paid by card are entered against the job as billable costs, so they are counted in the job's cost and recovered on the next invoice.

Progress draws and marked-up materials.
Hours by job, materials by job, margin by job
Apprentices and journeymen log hours against each job in time tracking, with a clock-in timer. The totals by job show where the hours went.
Supply-house bills, permits and subcontractors carry the job too, so Job Profitability lists the costs behind every project.

What it does not do
· No certified payroll (WH-347) or prevailing-wage reports.
· No estimating takeoff or material price database.
· Windows 10 and 11 for now (a Mac version is coming soon); no phone app.
· It imports your bank's statement file rather than connecting live to the bank.
Questions people ask
Before you download
Can I mark up materials?
Yes. When you pull billable costs onto an invoice, you can add a markup percentage to them before they are added.
Does Job Profitability include labour?
It includes everything tagged to the job: bills, cheques and card charges. Payroll is recorded by employee, not split across jobs, so use time tracking to see the hours each job took.
Do I need separate files for service and projects?
No. Use classes for service, residential and commercial work, and run the profit and loss by class.
Does it handle GST/HST and PST?
Yes. Set up GST/HST, or GST with PST, and the sales tax report gives the figures for each return.
