Cabinet makers and finish carpenters

Accounting software for cabinet makers and carpenters: deposits, sheet goods and job profit

Custom cabinetry means a big deposit, weeks of shop time, a pile of hardware and sheet goods, and an install at the end. AcboBooks holds the deposit as a liability, costs every board and hinge to the kitchen it went into, and tells you what the job made.

For cabinet shops, millwork shops and finish carpenters in the US and Canada, $399.99 once.

No card, no account. Windows 10 and 11. United States and Canada.

What it means

In practice

Deposits that are not income yet

The 50% to start is a customer deposit, held in a liability account until you invoice. Apply it to the final invoice and only the balance is left to collect.

Every sheet and hinge on the job

Plywood, hardwood, hardware, finish and outsourced doors go on bills with the customer:job attached. Shop and install hours are logged against the same job.

Shop stock without the guesswork

Keep common sheet goods and hardware as inventory at average cost, take them out to a job as you use them, and count the rack at year-end.

An invoice in AcboBooks

The final invoice with the deposit applied.

Know which kitchens pay for the shop

Quote from an estimate, take the deposit, buy the materials against the job, and log the hours. When the install is done, invoice the balance and the job closes with its margin on the report.

After a season you can see whether painted kitchens, built-ins or vanities make the most per shop hour.

What it does not do

· No cut lists, CNC files or bill of materials.

· Customer deposits are applied to invoices; there is no separate deposit refund screen.

· Windows 10 and 11 for now (a Mac version is coming soon); no phone app.

· It imports your bank's statement file rather than connecting live to the bank.

Questions people ask

Before you download

Is a customer's deposit income when I get it?

Not in the books. It is recorded as a customer deposit, a liability, until the invoice is raised. Applying it to the invoice clears both.

How do I handle sales tax on installed cabinets?

Rules differ: some states treat installed cabinets as a real property improvement and some tax the whole sale. Set taxable and non-taxable items to match how your state or province treats you.

Can I see profit per kitchen?

Yes. Make each kitchen a job under the customer. Materials, hours and outside work carry the job, and the Job Profitability report shows the result.

Can two of us work in the books?

Yes. Two computers are included: one hosts the file, the other connects over the shop or home network.
