Time tracking and billable hours

Time tracking software that turns billable hours into invoices

Log hours by employee against a customer or job and a service item, mark them billable or not, and turn the unbilled hours into an invoice in one step. A clock in and out timer is there for the work you do at the desk.

Time tracking is part of AcboBooks, the desktop accounting program bought once for $399.99. It suits consultants, agencies, IT services and trades that bill by the hour.

No card, no account. Windows 10 and 11. United States and Canada.

What it means

In practice

Hours with a home

Each entry has a date, an employee, hours, a customer:job, a service item, a rate and notes. Billable hours carry a dollar value; non-billable ones are still counted.

From hours to invoice

Pick a customer and choose Create invoice from unbilled time. The hours become invoice lines at their rates, and they are marked billed so they never go out twice.

Totals both ways

See hours and billable dollars by employee or by customer:job for any date range. That is where you find the job that took twice the time you quoted.

An invoice in AcboBooks

Unbilled hours become invoice lines in one step.

Bill every hour you worked, not the ones you remembered

Start the timer when the call begins, stop it when it ends, and the entry is filled in. Add the notes the client will see on the invoice.

At the end of the month, invoice each client's unbilled time. Hours sit outside the ledger until they are billed, so nothing posts by accident.

What it does not do

· Logged hours do not flow into payroll: enter hours on the paycheque when you run payroll.

· No weekly timesheet grid or approval step; hours are entered one entry at a time.

· No mobile app for logging time away from the PC.

· Windows 10 and 11 for now (a Mac version is coming soon); no phone app.

· One company per file; open as many files as you have businesses.

Questions people ask

Before you download

Can employees log their own time?

Anyone with a user sign-in on a computer connected to the company file can log time, choosing the employee each entry belongs to.

Does time tracking feed payroll?

No. Time entries are for billing and job totals. When you run payroll, enter each employee's hours on the paycheque.

Does logged time post to the books?

No. Hours are kept outside the ledger until you bill them; the invoice then posts to income and receivables like any other.

Can I bill hours at different rates?

Yes. Each entry has its own hourly rate, so senior and junior hours or different kinds of work can be billed differently.
